The night is scheduled to include house and dubstep DJs, fashion designers, and all manner of performances from aerial fabric and juggling to Go Go dancers, glowing cocktails, a costume contest, and a few cyber surprises.

In part, the party is also a celebration of the cyberpunk movement and the use of emerging technology that levels the playing-field against the establishments in a fight for human rights and equality. This is the era of the geek, and face it, if you’re reading this you’ve got at least a little geek in you.

This is a party for movers, designers, artists, hackers, and YOU!

Dress in your most electric colors for a crowd sourced costume contest and come early for a luminescent cocktail! (Bonus points for wearing lights, QR codes, UV body paint, or bionic enhancements!)

Tuesdays through February and March at Guildwerks, I will be teaching Beginner’s Fusion Dance.

What I’ll be teaching and what you’ll be learning:

Beat (when to move your body).

Basics of movement including:
Arms
Legs
Hands
Torso
Levels (height of movements)

Being comfortable on the dance floor.

Music will be tech house, dubstep, etc. Feel free to bring an iPod with music you would like to learn how to dance to.

What to wear: Comfortable clothing you can move in! I’d suggest tennis shoes too.

Tuesday February 21th at 6-7 and 7-8. Come for one or come for both (only pay for one, come to both). $10 ($5 if you can’t afford $10).

If you’ve never seen Rocky Horror, do a little research before going to this event. It is definitely not for the faint of heart. In fact, I’m pretty sure the show comes with a disclaimer announced by the CEI cast before each show. They tell you, along with a feverous crowd, to “GO THE **** HOME” multiple times, for multiple reasons. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn’t listen and/or doesn’t get it. The brain trauma they must experience is mindboggling.

For anyone that doesn’t know, Rocky Horror is a cult movie and/or stage show that accidently became a hit sometime in the late 1970′s. It should have died at birth but somehow managed to come back from the dead with a godlike status amongst the counter culture twigs of the nightlife societies. Any doubts I once had about the existence of ghouls and the undead have been squashed by my attendance at this show. They’re real and they come out once a month to attend.

The RHPS is known to be shown at midnight viewings around America.” Denver is one of only a small handful of cities in which the Rocky Horror Picture Show has never stopped playing since the film’s debut in 1975 http://www.denverrockyhorror.com/main/ceis-history/. The cast is dedicated, the callbacks are outrageous, and the party is happening.

The Last Friday of every month! Get to the Esquire Theatre at 590 Downing Street in Denver for Rocky Horror. If you haven’t seen the show before, or have never attended a midnight showing of Rocky Horror, make sure to find a cast member and mention this to them. They have something in store for you. To add to the debauchery, bring $5 cash and you can get a throwbag of props. The show is audience participation after all.

A friend of mine has opened up an Aerial Studio in Denver called LeFey Aerial. He is an amazing instructor who has been an aerial performer for many years. The studio is being run in both a class format and open workout gym with a monthly membership. People with memberships get reduced prices on classes.

How did this come about? What drunken rational could I possibly be using? None! (Playing with fire/setting self on fire while intoxicated would be downright irresponsible!) Actually, this all stems from my lack of fear for fire.

I went to Burning Man for the first time in 2009. While there, I saw a culture that welcomed fire. Thousands of fire spinners converge on the Burn every year. Thousands of fire toys are lit up at all times during the night. It’s a wonderful sight, and upon seeing it, I wanted in.

Fast forward a few months and I decide to get into fire spinning to chase after a girl. She was a fire spinner and I wanted to keep up. I got comfortable around fire by becoming a safety for one of the organized groups in Denver. Being a safety in this group had me sitting smack dab in the center of 50+ fire dancers while they lit up and saw how close they could get to me. Good times.

3 weeks of practice led me to lighting my poi up for the first time. I didn’t burn myself at all (no singed hair either!). Well, with practice, I got better and much more comfortable playing with my new hobby.

During this time, I have to mention that I was surrounded by other fire spinners who burn themselves by accident all the time. My good friend Moloch is a walking billboard of how not to fire spin (seriously, the amount of scars on this kid are impressive). I would watch my friends singe themselves and get burned on a nightly basis. Burn cream is an essential that everyone would carry. Everyone had little nics and scars from playing around. Everyone but me.

I’ve never burned myself. I have set myself on fire, at first by accident, then later slightly on purpose, but through all of these times I’ve never been burned. This has led to several incidents of me torching myself and laughing like a maniac while continuing to spin through it.

Places I have lit myself on fire and thought it was funny instead of scary:
#1: My crotch (or right above it because damn, that would knock me down.)
#2: My head: Lit my Mohawk (when I had one) on fire during a First Friday at the Whomp Truck. Proceeded to keep spinning fire with hair on fire. The crowd was amused.
#3: Arms and pants: Normal places where fuel from the toys end up.

Eventually, I’ll probably learn my lesson and have to stop being ridiculous when I spin. Till then though… heh.

The opener (Emika), while good, is holding back. The crowd is here for visuals. She has a very dark set. Weird choice for an opener. I dig her sound though (it seems like the crowd does too). Dubstep light with vocals.

Someone just pointed out the projectors to me. Holy hell these things are big. I’ll try and get a pic after the show. (Next day update: Never got to take the pic.)
